11/4 Secondary Transition Overview

Formal Assessments

Formal assessments are researched based and normed. They can be any of the following: achievement tests, aptitude tests, adaptive behavior scales, intellectual function assessments, temperament inventories, self determination scales, & prevocational/employability scales.

Informal Assessments

With informal assessments, the information being gathered about the student can come from a variety of sources. Informal assessments are not norm referenced, but still provide a part of the complete puzzle for building an effective secondary transition plan. Informal assessments can include the following: Interest inventories, situational assessments, interviews, observations, case file reviews, curriculum based assessments, social history, & rating scales.

Both formal and informal assessments should be used in order to benefit the students in forming their secondary transition plan.
